Challenge

How do we get trees from cost to revenue?

A tree works

And how. A tree makes an essential and valuable contribution to our densely built-up environment. Because a tree is alive, and is actively working to improve the city - although you can't always tell from such a sturdy trunk.

With TreeCollective we help builders, planners, residents, developers and administrators to choose for trees. We think along about preservation and maintenance. And we make the benefits of trees tangible, testable and calculable.

Together, we bring the city to life, tree by tree.

How

We have created the collective Foundation TreeCollective in which we make it possible to invest easily in green. We deploy technology (IoT and blockchain) to increase fundability, returns and accessibility for alternative cash flows.

The basics of the application:

Trees are tagged with a chip, given GPS coordinates and a unique ID. The data is put on the blockchain and a token is generated. With this token ownership becomes transferable. Trees with their benefits and owner can be shown on a map.

The revenues can be increased by linking a program such as iTree to the data of the tree.

The financeability can be improved because the trees are traceable (asset tracking).

Furthermore, it is more accessible for new money flows because you can trade tokens.

Realize - Hilversum

The first running commercial business case is the cemetery in Hilversum.

Relatives of the deceased can purchase a nature tomb containing a young tree. This tree is chipped and provided with GPS coordinates. Relatives receive these coordinates and can thus locate the deceased.

The deceased has paid for the tree and thus made the greening of the cemetery possible. The natural grave decays, the tree stays.

This application has made it possible for greenery to be purchased by the deceased, and it has increased the fundability and revenue for the cemetery.

Realize - Amersfoort

In Amersfoort we are giving residents more control over the design and use of green.

Common Woods is a real estate development that promises to become the most sustainable neighborhood in Amersfoort. The ambition is to make the area radically greener. We think this can be achieved by giving people more control over the development of the green plan and by issuing subscriptions for the use of the greenery. Residents can reduce the subscription costs by doing more maintenance themselves, cultivating, etc.

Together with the developer and future residents we will co-create the further details via a community tool.

Realize - Floating Farm

At Floating Farm we offer cows a more pleasant living environment by placing trees.

Cows are originally forest animals. Yet we are mostly familiar with the image that they belong in an open, green grassland or meadow without any shelter. Scientific studies show that cows live longer, give more milk and produce more milk per day if they are sheltered.

With TreeCollective we will monitor this in practice and demonstrate the value of trees in this environment. We will show this to the many visitors of the Floating Farm so that they not only understand the value of the trees, but also to correct the image that cows belong in a green meadow without shelter.
